Q&A
Q: How do you think college sports will be different from high school or club sports?
A: I definitely expect it to be much more challenging, competitive, and intense, which is the kind of atmosphere that I am looking forward to being around. Everyone will be on the same page with the same goals. I also expect it to be more physically demanding and I am prepared to work hard to be a good student-athlete as well.
Q: What and how do you think you can contribute to a college team?
A: I have been around the sport for most of my life and have developed a strong volleyball IQ, which helps me to see the play and anticipate what will happen on the court before it happens. This gives me an advantage, especially as a libero/ds. I also have obtained a strong leadership role on the teams I've played on by being a motivator, through my words and actions. I think this is an important quality that will carry over to whatever college team I play for.
Q: What are you looking for in a college program?
A: I am looking for a program that is more than willing to work hard and craving to win. I want to be on a team with competitors, devotion, and a love for the game. Another important thing to me is strong academics, particularly in engineering/math.
Q: How are you physically preparing yourself to play at the collegiate level?
A: I am currently training 3-4 days a week- weight lifting and agilities specific to quick movements, reaction timing, and working to increase my vertical jump. Whether I am practicing in a gym, playing sand volleyball, or just peppering with my sister, I manage to get my hands on a ball almost every day.
Q: What would you say to "sell" yourself to a coach, who had no knowledge of your volleyball skills?
A: I come from two extremely competitive programs and I know how to win, which is an experience that cannot be taught. I am extremely intense and contribute to every single play on the court, and I will do anything to win. I am also very talkative and smart on the court, which tends to rub off on whoever I'm playing with.
Q: What 5 adjectives describe you and your skills?
A: Hard Working, Leader, Competitive, Intense, and Smart
Q: What time management skills are you learning to incorporate into your daily life?
A: With 8 classes a day, practice, training, and homework, it is hard to approach the day without a plan. I am constantly setting aside time for each activity and also some time to spend with family and friends to relax. I work diligently to be where I need to be on time.
